AMA Round one May 24th-25th
It was a beautiful overcast day unlike the past three years. Team Zoo was invited to do the two stroke invitational race of champions on Saturday. We also had AMA team rider 368 Phil Thornstensen racing the lites class on a Yamaha.
Saturday started out with our Zoo team rider and newly born again racer Ray Sommo who had the whole shot all the way till five feet from Talladega first turn and rode an impressive 20 min. moto placing 15th over.
Phil Thornstensen had to run time laps in Saturday qualifier. Phil missed by .20th of a second and had to go into a last chance qualifier on Sunday. Phil got a terrible start and had to work his way through the pack. At the end of the moto he was only two possessions out of qualifying and a rider York crossed over into his lane off a triple and Phil landed on him. This was the most insane crash I ever seen I know God was with Phil and York because they both lived and had minimal injuries. See video clip on Phil Thorstensen page.
All in all it was a great weekend of Ministry, Racing and catching up with all the people in the industry. Zoo is really making a difference in the MX seen.
